Schilthornbahn AG celebrates 50th anniversary

On Saturday, 17 June 2017, around 400 people celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Schilthornbahn AG. The public celebration in the village center of Mürren was well visited. In the evening, the 250 invited guests were treated to culinary delights on Piz Gloria summit.

June 2017 marks the 50th anniversary that the Birg – Schilthorn section took up service as the last of the four sections of the Schilthornbahn. Meanwhile, over 4 million passengers have been transported annually by the Schilthornbahn AG and the tourist offer has been extended by numerous attractions and experience elements. “It was important to us to celebrate the anniversary in the village center of Mürren, because only together with this destination has it been possible to have a successful business history for over five decades” says Peter Feuz, President of the Board of Directors of the Schilthornbahn AG.

Early in the afternoon, invited guests, residents as well as tourists were welcomed in Mürren for aperitifs and music. Accompanied by The Tryschler group Schmadribach and the Mürren-Musig, the official jubilee celebration was launched. The official speaker at the event, Werner Luginbühl, áddressed the guests: “This cableway has been created from your midst, is carried by locals and has always maintained its independence.” Mayor Martin Stäger described how he had followed the construction and development of the cableway as a child and continued in saying: “We are proud to have such a well organized and flourishing company in our community; The Schilthornbahn is a top seller for the region.” As a gift, Martin Stäger presented the cableway administrators with a large, traditional and labeled wooden bench, which was described by Board of Directors President Peter Feuz as a “thinking bench for future projects”.

Among the official congratulators were Werner Zimmerli, President of Mürren Tourism as well as Adrian Stähli, President of the Hotelier Union Lauterbrunnen-Mürren. Both appreciated the use of the cableway for the good of the community, by supporting events and projects which are relevant to the region and Mürren.

Andreas Feuz, President of the Mountain Community Allmendgenossenschaft Mürren, congratulated the Cableway and presented a special gift in the form of a voucher for 1’000 liters of diesel. Christoph Egger, director of the Schilthornbahn AG was surprised and delighted at the same time: “We would like to thank all the mountain cooperatives for the good collaboration and will gladly use the voucher for the ski preparation on the Allmihubel.”

Accompanied by the Mürren-Musig and the Trychlern, the invited guests  strolled from the village center to Mürren station. After the ride with the cable car they spent the evening at the Schilthorn summit 360 ​​° Piz Gloria restaurant.

Jubilee year has not yet ended

However, following the official celebration of 17 June, the anniversary year is not yet finished! For the duration of 2017, the “Happy Birthday special offer” continues, so people can ride on the cable car for free on their birthday and only the accompanying person has to pay.

Furthermore, the 20th Inferno-Triathlon as well as the 25th Inferno-Half-Marathon on 19 August are official events of the jubilee year. Until 12 November 2017, the 007 special exhibition with special collectors’ pieces and props  from the James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” can be visited at Piz Gloria.
