Slowly on its way out of cinemas after six weeks, “Spectre” almost cracked the $800 million mark this week. This weekend flushed in another estimated $5 million in the US box office. In Germany, the latest 007 flick broke the visitor record of its predecessor “Skyfall” with over 5,5 million visitors.
With the holiday season approaching fast, it can be expected that moviegoers will shift their attention away from the cinema which would naturally mean a significant decrease in visitor numbers. However, “Spectre” just had its general release in Japan on 04 Deccember which could give the film a final boost to push it past the $800 million mark and further. Box office numbers from Japan have not been released yet.
While “Spectre” has held No.1 positions in almost every country, the box office numbers are the ones that ultimately decide about its commercial success which is currently limping when compared to the previous film “Skyfall” (2012). It’s vital to point out, that this doesn’t define the quality of the film which every moviegoer has evaluated differently.
